Within the red painted walls of INTEGRATE you'll find a unique Community of people. Across their diversity in gender, age and fitness levels, they share a single commonality; they are athletes. INTEGRATE clients train like professionals, but never without the element of fun. They stick together checking in on each others' lives during core class, offering to grab lunch after a weekend ride and sharing training tips over email.
As soon as you walk through the INTEGRATE doors we consider you one of us. You belong to our community. We are a group of recreational athletes who train, compete and enrich our lives through fitness, and then play a prank on Al, because hey, that's the environment he's promoted.
IPF Community Spotlight Each week we highlight a member of the IPF Community in our "Team" page, e-newsletter and "Spotlight Blog." These are people who lead by example as they engage in an active healthy lifestyle.
We've got people who are competitors in endurance sports, ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, golf, softball, tennis and Bowling. We also have Community Members who love to be outdoors enjoying nature, bird watching, gardening, walking their dogs, hiking with their families and a whole lot more.
We don't care how you INTEGRATE when you play outside, as long as you do!
To be recognized as a Commnunity Spotlight recipient is the highest honor we can give to someone in our IPF fitness famiy. We always appreciate your efforts, and we are proud to have you at our facility!!!
This week's Community Spotlight: Jamie "Laverne" Hull This week, we "honor" one of the Hall of Fame IPF'ers. Laverne has gone from noob cyclist to the top step of the competitive mountain bike podium. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she digs in and kicks ass every time she rides. Yes, it is hurting my soul to write this..... Why IPF? I came to IPF on a whim when Al took over coaching our TNT hill repeats for a season. I really enjoyed the levels of absurdity/fun that he brought to the training, and figured it couldn't hurt to see what else was out there. After a quick fitness evaluation and set of exercise demos, I was pretty confident that Al was on to something with his strength training ideas. Two weeks of barely being able to walk later, I was hooked. I was quickly gaining strength -- and leg size -- in a way I hadn't been able to do on my own. (Seriously, what chick *doesn't* want that?) Turns out, under a lot of blather and nonsense, Al really does understand how bodies work and what exercises will make them better. The uber-nerd in me appreciates his methodological approach to training. His exercises often seem like madness, but, if you ask, there's a (surprisingly well-thought out) reason for each one. Just don't trust him with a timer.
How has it helped? I started cycling in '07 and a couple years (and a couple crashes) later, my training had stagnated. I was getting slower with every ride and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Worse, my decrease in performance was killing my desire to get out and ride at all. IPF pushed me out of my funk. The strength training and core work helped correct a lot of imbalance that I didn't even know I had, and the on-bike workouts forced me look at my form with new eyes. It took awhile, and there's still PLENTY of room for improvement, but my cadence is consistently over 90 these days... and I have discovered that my elbows can, in fact, bend.
Even better, the IPF coaches taught me how to be an independent cyclist. After years of riding ONLY with a team and almost always on supported rides, I finally learned how to get out, by myself, and just... ride. Sure, it's still more fun with people most of the time -- but at least I know I can do it solo. Heck, I even did my first race last year! I never would have thought about trying that before.
Best part bout IPF? The black bands. OK, not really. It's the people. Somehow, IPF has managed to attract this amazing mix of competitive, talented people who are also not @sshats. And I don't know if you know this... but that's something of a miracle, at least among cyclists I've met. We push each other. Curse at each other. Occasionally fantasize about popping each other's tires when passed on a hill. But we also suffer together, laugh together, and celebrate each other's successes -- which is pretty damn awesome.
MVP Strength Training Our proven approach has drastically improved the way Bay Area endurance sports enthusiasts move in the water, in the saddle and on their feet. Whether you want to complete your next century, charity run in top form, or you want to reach the top step of the podium, we will help you get there.
